“What gets said is one thing, but what isn’t said has to be there as well. It has to float along with what you’re writing. And you have to feel that, too.”

—Herta Müller

I have worked with manuscripts at all stages of development—from first drafts to revised editions. I’ve edited novels, story and essay collections, and memoirs, and I am experienced in developmental, substantive, and line editing. I have worked for literary presses and with writers looking to publish, and I would welcome the opportunity to support you in any stage of the process. If you are interested in working with me, please fill out the contact form and provide a brief description of your project, along with what type of feedback you would like. I will then look at your manuscript and provide you with an estimate before we get started.

Heather brings a writer’s sensibility to the editing process, offering not just corrections but creative suggestions that improve the narrative while preserving the voice. I recommend her to any writer looking for an editor who combines attention to detail with respect for the creative process—who understands both the mechanics and the art of writing.

Heather read my prose book and offered me some of the best, most insightful suggestions I’ve had in my many years of writing. She knows how to read a manuscript and give feedback that is—somehow—apt, insightful, inspiring, kind, and eminently useful, while at the same time maintaining a stance of absolute honesty. She is a superb editor—a gift given to few.

Heather read my early pages so carefully and generously. She updated me throughout the process with favorite details and clarifying questions, which alleviated my anxiety. When she shared her notes, I felt like I had a true advocate who clearly recognized my strengths as a writer. She made some of the most important suggestions about cuts and additions; I returned to her notes again and again throughout the revision process. She’s an inspired writer herself, and it shows. Highly recommend working with her on developmental edits.
