Heather A. Slomski was awarded a Minnesota State Artist Initiative Grant to travel to Krakow, Poland for six weeks to do research for and to draft her novel-in-progress, The Starlight Ballroom. The Starlight Ballroom takes place in Krakow and tells the fictionalized, somewhat fantastical story of the lives and deaths of her paternal grandparents. She was also awarded a Minnesota Emerging Writers’ Grant to work on this book.
